Fennel *

FennelAn easily recognised and in places abundant plant that can be recognised by its height and distinctive aniseed smell. The tender leaves can be chewed to ward off hunger while the fibrous stems can be cooked and eaten. A small amount can be added to any stew especially potatoes to add flavour and is especially useful to add a sweet aniseed taste to otherwise bland stews such as those made from nettles.
